He was predeceased by: his parents, Pevis Heck and Anna Heck (Kary); his sister Diane Heck; and his siblings-in-law, Al George, Ralph Beehler and Jeannie Heck.

He is survived by: his children, Jeff (Sandra), James of Robbinsville, NJ, Michele Held of Bismarck and Angela Heck of Bismarck; his grandchildren, Jordyn, Shaylan Heck, Brandon and Bailee Held; his great grandchild Noah Held; his siblings, Lena George of Woodbury, MN, Darlene Beehler of Lovelock, NV, Kathleen Wainright (Robert) of San Diego, CA, Bobbie Keller (Chuck) of Bismarck, Joe (Agnes) of Baker, OR, Don (Marge) of Bismarck and Ray (Marge) of Mandan; and his sister-in-law Jessie Heck of Bismarck. He is also survived by his children, relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
