He is survived by: his children, Candace Hohenstein of Mandan, Carl Hohenstein Jr, Bismarck Hohenstein and Otto Hohenstein; his grandchildren, Kasa, Steele, Craig, Casey and Nicole; and his sibling's child Dave Gipp (United Tribes).
