He was predeceased by: his brother Ty; and his pets, Bear and Zeus. He is survived by: his friends, Ranch and Bismarck; his father Ronald Andahl (Patricia); his sister Darcy; his son Charles Lacy (Tia); his grandmother Joan Zacher; his friend Audrey Ekstrom; and his pet Hank. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

David cited developing a Comprehensive Plan for Burleigh County as one of the major accomplishments during his tenure, creating a solid foundation for the future.
