He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Schafer and Magdalena Schafer (Schaaf); and his siblings, Beatrice, Rose, Phillip, Wilbert "Buddy", Adeline, Alice, Edward, Anthony and Joyce.
He is survived by: his wife Catherine "Kate"; his children, Susan Aukes (Joel), Shannon Schafer (Timber), Sheree Schafer, Selinda Schafer, Shawn Schafer (Kristin) and Sandy Schafer (Lindsay); and his grandchildren, Markita Rohde (Josh), Alexia, Ambrea, Emma, Tallin, Bethany Schafer and Ella. He is also survived by three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
