He was loved and cherished by many people including: his mother Pauline Gardner; his grandmother Girlie; his wife Wilma Bell; his former wife Merle Standish; his children, Anisa Osborne (Jon), Tania Screamingeagle, Jade Nelson, Tommy Nelson Jr. (Kashmir), Ian 'Mino Nelson, Robin Severance (Robbie), Lane Standish (Kayla) and Alicia Standish of Merle's; his father Emil Nelson; his brothers, Titus Hall, James Highbe and Merle Ann Nelson; and his former wife Wilma Ann Fyllesvold. He was also cherished by fifteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews, friends, and extended family.
