He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry A. Steffens and Emma Steffens (Hellwege); his wife Margaret Steffens; and his siblings, Melvin Steffens, Lee Steffens, Lorraine Larson (Ralph) and Lois Samuelson.
He is survived by: his stepchildren, Mark Steffens (Amy), Mary Link (Scott), Marlys Frojen (Eric), Myron Steffens and Marchele Paterson (Richard); his grandchildren, Zachary Steffens and Samantha Frojen; and his siblings-in-law, Harry "Skip" Samuelson of Bismarck, ND and Karen Steffens of Fargo, ND. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
