He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Thune and Merle Thune; his grandson Chance Thune; his parents-in-law, Norman Kanwischer and Mavis Kanwischer; and his brother-in-law Norm Kanwischer.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Kanwischer of Harvey, ND; his children, Chris Thune (Karla) of London, UK, Jill George (Scott) of Sartell, MN and Heidi Wieland (Eric) of Fargo, ND; and his siblings, Lois Rennerfeldt (Earl) of Williston, ND and John (Vicki) of Albany, OR. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; nieces and nephews and many beloved friends.
Once diagnosed with Parkinson's Lewy Bodies, Gary and Betty moved to Fargo, ND to be closer to family.
