He is survived by: his wife Arlene Hauschulz; his children, James Petterson Jr. (Mary) and Jan Brosnahan (Paul) of Winona, MN; his sister Judith Mackenzie (Donald) of Minneapolis, MN; his grandchildren, MacKenzie Brosnahan and Roger Brosnahan; his stepgrandchildren, Ian Faurot and Laurel Faurot; and his siblings-in-law, Shirley Nesemeier, Janice Holland (George), Marlys Wahlert, Debra Pettit (Gerald), Rodney Hauschulz (Marleen) and Bob Hauschulz (Sharon).
