He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Schmitz and Carolyn Schmitz (Taskey); his wife Audrey Jean Rooney; and his brothers, Don, Kenneth, William and Raymond.
He is survived by: his daughters, Susan Knoll (Ken) of Burnsville, MN, Rebecca Lubbesmeyer (Dan) of Frazee, MN and Pam Junes (Greg) of Menahga; his siblings, Betty Bickerstaff, Arthur Schmitz, Melvin Schmitz (Judy) of Fargo, Geraldine Peterson (Jim) of Bemidji and Jeanette Davis of Warren, Idaho; his close friend Rita Lindamoen of Fargo; and his grandchildren, Tim Strendin, Melissa Swenson, Joshua May, Erika Erb, Michael Hunke, Brady Junes and Brandon Junes. He is also survived by grandchildren; 19 precious great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
