He was predeceased by: his wife Patricia E. Tweeten; his siblings, Roy, Tom, Ellen, Margaret, Mabel, Carol and Betty; and his daughter-in-law Dawn.

He is survived by: his sons, John Richards of Hawley, MN, Jeff Richards (Flo) and Moorhead; and his grandchildren, Ben Richards (Allison), Sara Koppelman (Josh), Katie Scott (Shawn), Angie Richards and Michael Richards. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.
