She was predeceased by : her parents, Gordon Arnold Nielsen and Mae Eleanor Nielsen (Johnson); and her siblings, Douglas Nielson (Sally), Nancey Saumers (Ted), Marianne Henke (James) and Gail Martinsen (Roger).

She is survived by : her former life partner Danny Mautz; her child-in-law Sloan Schaffer; her husband Rev. Paul Nelson; her children, Cindy Mautz (Danny) and Brian Nelson (Sloan); her grandchildren, Lauren Krause (Jon), Macy Morgan (Zoda), Kristina Mautz and Jacob Mautz; her stepgrandchildren, Courtney and Kellen Krebsbach; her great grandchildren, Shawn Mautz, Cora and Jaxon Morgan; and her sisters, Carolyne McHugh, Joy Carson (Greg) and Jean Mulville (Doug). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Lutheran Hour Ministries or the Garrison-Max Ambulance.
