He is survived by: his wife Doris "Dot" Boushee of Grand Forks; his children, Tammy Holder (Randy) of Beulah, ND and Todd Benson (LoRae) of Grand Forks, ND; his grandchildren, Nick Benson (Teresa), Nicole Gartzke (Ryan), Ryan Holder (Amanda), Jacob Benson and Emily Benson; his siblings, Pat Swangler (Frank) of Grand Forks, ND, Mike Benson (Nancy), Pamela Suedel of Coon Rapids, MN, Tom Benson (Carla) of Coon Rapids, MN, Paulette Suedel (Richard) of Grand Forks, ND, Priscilla Thomsen (Doug) of Grand Forks, ND and Prudence Nelson of Coon Rapids, MN; his daughter-in-law Stasia Carew of International Falls, MN.; and also John. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.
