She was predeceased by : her parents, Ludvik Wasen and Magdelinea Wasen; and her siblings, Irene, Mildred and Oscar.

She is survived by : her former life partner Maynard Schuette of Braddock; her husband Robert Gaukler of Linton, ND; her children, Jim Schuette (Kathy) of Salem, Oregon, Joyce Lemer (Blaine) of Linton, ND, Sister-Norma Breckel (Gottlieb) and Brother-Marvin Wasen; her grandchildren, William (Jenna), Ryan (Tara), Wisc, Wade Huber (Erin), Jill Rowe (Steve) of Fargo, ND, Janell Adams (Mike) of Oxbow, ND, Marc Schuette (Meagan) of Portland, OR and Melisa Jaenisch (Thomas); and her stepgrandchildren, Tom Swearingen Jr. (Michelle), Brian Swearingen of Tampa, FL., Jordan, Jessica and Spencer Lemer. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Peace Lutheran Church or to the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Leona's honor.
