He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Opdahl and Irene Opdahl (Nichols); his sister Arlene; his siblings-in-law, Curtis Kraft and Kathleen Tangen Bruhn; his brother Burton; his sister-in-law Lois Smedshammer; his parents-in-law, Ingvald and Olga Smedshammer; and his granddaughter Layne Marie McClaflin.
He is survived by: his wife Sharon Smedshammer; his children, Dana McClaflin (Darryl), Chris Wyant (Rick), Lon Opdahl (Becky) and Brett Opdahl (Laurie); his sister Delores Olafson; and his grandchildren, Brady McClaflin (Madalyn), Taylor McClaflin, Kaitlyn McClaflin, Breanna Opdahl, Logan Opdahl, Jerod Opdahl, Chase Wyant and Paige Wyant.
There will be a time of visitation, while following pandemic guidelines, at the Lerud Mathias Funeral Home in Valley City, ND on Monday from 5PM until 7PM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to CHI Hospice, LItchville's First Lutheran Church, or Community Center.
