He was predeceased by: his son Robert; his parents, Amos Tollefson and Phyllis Tollefson; and his father-in-law William Lauber. He is survived by: his spouses, Catherine Lauber and Cathy Tollefson; his daughter Bethany Hillenbrand (Rob); his grandsons, Tyler Hillenbrand and Ryan Hillenbrand; his siblings, Doug Tollefson (Julie), Phil Tollefson (Bev) and Sharon Schueller (Bruce); and his mother-in-law Dorothy Lauber.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
