He was predeceased by : his parents, Dorothy Elizabeth Sawyer (Cherrey) and Richard Sawyer; his brother-in-law Jerry Stief; his grandparents, Howard, Elizabeth Sawyer, Bert and Emma Cherrey; and his father-in-law George Schumacher.
He is survived by : his wife Becky; his children, Jessica Ann Sawyer of Kearney and Adam; his daughter-in-law Jenessa Sawyer; his siblings, Darrell (Karla) of Rapid City, S. D., Merlin (Leann) of Brandon, S. D., Connie Stief of Sioux Falls, S. D. and Darla (Jose Espitia) of Round Rock, TX; his aunt Betty McAdaragh of Brookings, SD; his mother-in-law Irma Schumacher of Ames, IA; and his siblings-in-law, Mitzi Schumacher of Lexington, KY, Johanna Schumacher of Ames, IA and Mark Schumacher (Susan) of Wolsey, S. D. He is also survived by seven nieces and six nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to the National Junior Angus Association, the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association or to the family in his name for other designations.
