It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mary Elizabeth Schaffert (Gothenburg, Nebraska), who passed away on September 21, 2025, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. As Mary Elizabeth departs from this earthly realm, her essence lingers — a whisper on the wind, a ripple on the water — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of life and death. Though Mary Elizabeth may no longer walk beside us, her spirit lives on in the memories and the legacy Mary Elizabeth leaves behind.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Sylvia Devona Schaffert (Poteet) and Edwin Waldemar Schaffert. She is survived by: her daughter Shoshana Sumrall; her sister Nancy Schaffert; and her pet Locket. She is also survived by cousins and many dear friends.
A funeral service was held on Friday, September 26th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Stockville Church. A burial was held on Friday, September 26th 2025 at the Curtis Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the McCook Animal Shelter.
