She was predeceased by: her parents, George Tjarks and Dena Tjarks (Kahman); her husband Donald Merkel; her siblings, Lorna (Delbert Brown), Ilene (Frank Gerdes), Delmar Tjarks and Myron Tjarks; her siblings-in-law, Dolores Tjarks, Duane Schliep and Steve Sadd; and her children-in-law, Judy Merkel and Larry Kent.
She is survived by: her children, Ronald Merkel, Neil Merkel and Donna Merkel Kent; her grandchildren, Cyndi, Jeff Nelson and Tami Merkel; her great grandchildren, Danielle, Kendall Kucera, Omaha, Dalton DeWald, Amber, John Childers and Julia Nelson; her great great grandchild Miles Kucera; her siblings, Eugene Tjarks, Frances Schliep and Barbara Sadd; and her sisters-in-law, Ila Tjarks and Mary Tjarks A. She is also survived by Nieces & Nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 3rd 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Peace Lutheran Church (906 N California Ave, Hastings, NE 68901).
Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church.
