He was predeceased by: his parents, Vern Pickering and Clara Pickering; his daughter Mary Elizabeth; his brother David (Marcia); and his granddaughter Suzanne.

He is survived by: his wife Marcia Pickering (Peterson); his sons, Joseph Donald Pickering and Joe; and his siblings, Charlie, Jack and Sally. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
