He was predeceased by: his sister Cornelia Gerhard. He is survived by: his son Episcopal; his wife Deanna Gerhard of Omaha; his son Kurt Gerhard (Jennifer Lee) of Washington, D. C.; his brother Charles Mitchell of Leshara; and also, Marilyn Mitchell and John Mitchell. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
