Richard Alan Hiatt Obituary
Richard, "Rick" Hiatt, has gone home to be with his beloved Savior on May 23, 2022., at age 77, after a valiant battle with COPD. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in Jesus supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
2Corinthians 5:8
8 We are confident, I say, and* willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
Rick was born to Russell Hiatt & Bonnie Seeley on December 8th. 1944, in Manhattan, New York. He grew up in Miami FL and Catskill, NY, and attended Miami Edison Senior High, and Catskill High School. As he would often state, as a fact, he received his BS at the University of Hard Knocks and was a proud Roads Scholar, traveling from the east to the west coast and from the far north to the far south of the US.
Rick is survived by his daughter, Mary Hiatt, his grandson and great-grandson, his sisters, Linda Waldschmidt, Kathy Lundy, Julie Seeley, his many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Settling down in Omaha Nebraska in 1982, Rick found his passion in driving both the grade school and high school, Chief School Bus, until he retired in 2018.
Rick was a pacifist even before he reached puberty, fighting off neighborhood bullies of two neighbors who happened to be Jewish. He Marched on Washington during the 60s, protested at Wounded Knee, and protested the killing of unborn babies.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Hiatt and Bonnie Seeley, his brother Russ, niece Bonnie Bartlett, and his best friend Joseph, "Joey" Kames who preceded him just 5 1/2 months ago.
Rick was kind, generous, witty, and a terrible tease, well into his 70s. As his middle sister, I can tell you, I can't tell you how many times he got me good! I was so happy to share what became his favorite Bible verse, Luke 2:23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;) Well yeah, I would be happy too if I were my mom's firstborn male child!
The family would like to thank Hillcrest Hospice in Bellview, Nebraska, where he spent his final days, in the care of the very kind staff, a special shout out to Nurse, John, and Chaplain Rose.
Rick will be dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Savior.
