He was predeceased by : his parents, Wilbur Dwight and Opal Hammerlun (Boshart); his former life partner Alpha Grimm; his children, Patti, Peggy and Nicklas; and his nieces, Nicole Bennett and Emily Reiser.

He is survived by : his wife Lucy Hammerlun of O'Neill; his children, Lisa Hart (Keith) of Wiggins and Mike Hammerlun (Sara) of O'Neill; his grandchildren, Jared Hammerlun, Maddox Hammerlun, Samiya Hammerlun, Shelby Hart and Britney Hart; his siblings, John Hammerlun (Carol) of O'Neill and Pam Larsen (Dick) of Fremont, Nebraska; and also, Lisa and Mike. He is also survived by many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
