She was predeceased by : her parents, Raymond Salmen and Esther W. Salmen (Goesch); her husband James Gordon Ekstrand (Jim); and her sister Lorna Dickensheet. She is survived by : her children, Carolyn Smolka (Joseph) of Mead, CO, Mary Burnidge (David), Janet Rampey (Mark) of Bloomington, IL, David (Cindie) of Duarte, CA, Jeffrey (KT) of Gilbert, AZ, Ann McBride of Sand Springs, OK and John (Carolyn) of Peyton, CO; her siblings, Maurice Salmen of Sutton, NE, Arylis Huebert of Henderson, NE, Velma Greenfield (Jerry) of Lincoln, NE and Joleen Traudt of LaVista, NE; and her sister-in-law Carolyn Ekstrand of Stromsburg. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Stromsburg Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.
