He was predeceased by : his parents, John Samuel and Olive Morris (Tolle); his sister LilliAnn Kemp; his parents-in-law, Earl and Alice Barnes; his brothers, Myron (Delores Barnes) and Harold Barnes; and his niece Gloria Crapson.

He is survived by : his wife Josephine Barnes of Thedford; his daughters, Jonita Ferguson (Raymond) of Pilger, Joleen Jensen (Timothy) of Pilger, Jolinda Morris of Pilger and Jamie Placke (Shannon) of Grand Island; his grandchildren, Matthew, Allison, Samuel Ferguson, Thomas, Bridgett Jensen, Logan, Cameron Placke, Kyle Jensen (Sara) and Tanner Jensen; and his great grandchildren, Persephone Jensen, Kree and Baker Jensen. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
