He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Nelson (Black); his children, Robert Nelson (Christina) of Clifton, VA, Patricia Hiltebeitel (Jason), Milton and James Nelson (Wendy); and his grandchildren, Kyle, Erik, Lara, Elizabeth and Christopher Nelson. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
