He was predeceased by: his daughter Suzanne Wales; and his sister Audrey Gilkison. He is survived by: his son James Heaton; his former wife Johanna Heaton of Edison; his grandsons, Nicholas (Kylie Cahill), Thomas and Michael Wales; his son-in-law Edward Wales of Edison; his cousins, James "Bert" Heaton and Linda Gaines; his nephew Straley; and his pet Smokey.
