He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Manuel F. Escaleira and Celeste Escaleira; his wife Celeste Dias; his sons, Carlos B. Escaleira Jr. and Michael B. Escaleira; his siblings, Joao P. Escaleira and Leonor E. Fernandez (Carlos); and his siblings' children, Matthew E. Fernandez and Ryan E. Fernandez.
