She was predeceased by: her parents, Virgil Gaines Sr. and Alto Hines Gaines; her husband Johnnie Bouie Sr.; and her children, Hannah Jones, Mama Joe, Ruth Akila Sweet, Veronica Jean Bouie and Gail Lynn Bouie.
She is survived by: her children, Henrietta Bouie, Rett, Johnnie Bouie Jr. (Hester), Delores Baker, Gregory Bouie (Tanyna) and Emmit James Bouie; and her nieces, Ethel Beasley Dozier, Geraldine Wright and Helen Wilmore. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren plus a host of other relatives.
