He was predeceased by: his parents, Martha Cairns (Robinson) and George Cairns; his siblings, William Cairns, Reggie Cairns and Violet Baxter; and his nephew Steve Cairns.
He is survived by: his children, Avril Rawlings (Greg Rawlings) and Jason Cairns; his grandchildren, Ashley (John) and Anthony (Stephanie); his great grandchildren, Colton, Anthony and Lennon; his sister-in-law Meta; his niece Roberta (Fred); the mother of his children Elizabeth Gross; and his pet Molly.
His family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project in lieu of flowers in his name.
