He was predeceased by: his parents, Antonio and Isabel (Cano); his wife Juana (Espinosa); his son Rafael, Jr.; and his brother Jose Manuel.

He is survived by: his brother Ricardo Alfonso; and his pet Bogie. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, many great friends that cared for him daily, grandchildren and his faithful companion.
