He is survived by: his wife Ruth May Tietjen; his daughter Sarah Councell Turner; his granddaughter Alma Susana Vargas; his sister Pamela Plouffé; and his sibling's children, Jerry Roberts III, Justin Roberts and Dawn Drootin.

In lieu of flowers, the Councell family requests donations be made to the George E. Councell Fund for UrbanPromise Ministries in the Diocese of New Jersey.
