He is survived by: his daughter Monique Newson; his stepsons, Ordia Brown and Gerald Thomas; his adoptive son Edwin Jackson; his grandson Ahmir Robinson; his stepgrandchildren, Shawn Brown, Jarod Brown, Jaron Brown, Asha Wenzler, Tahja Tobias and Shahaada Tobias; and his sister Annie Mae Gauss.
