He was predeceased by: his parents, David F. O'Brien and Catherine O'Brien (Roddy); and his siblings, Catherine DiLorenzo, Lorraine Dickinson, David F. O'Brien Jr. and John P. O'Brien.

He is survived by: his wife Florence O'Brien (Vito); and his children, James J. O'Brien Jr., Cindi A DeSimone (Rudy) and Dawn M. Stevenson (Dave). He is also survived by seven Grandchildren and seven Great Grandsons.
