He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Patricia; his sons, James McGinley, Jr. (Helen), Michael McGinley and Tim McGinley; his grandchildren, James (Paul), Caitlin (Pete) and Timmy (Maria); his great grandchildren, Timmy, Killian, Jacob and Mia; and his siblings, Patrick McGinley, Jack McGinley and Annmarie "Cookie" O'Brien. He was also cherished by nieces and nephews.
