He was predeceased by : his son John Ray; his father Johnny Paul Gurule; his brother Joseph; his grandmother Maria Ortega; and his nephew Leo Gurule (Carlos Archuleta).
He is survived by : his mother Maria C. Muller; his sons, Esteban and Elija; his close friend Kristian Mitzel; and his siblings, Norman Gurule (Lita), Anthony Hererra (Margaret), Ernest Hererra of Las Cruces, Carmen Hererra of Pecos, Brenda Duran and Soryda (Antonia Pena). He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
