He was predeceased by: his husband Mary Lou Brooks; his child Cynthia Brooks; and his sibling Betty Leicht. He is survived by: his children, Richard Brooks, Jr. (Joanne), Monika Brooks, Mark Brooks, Gretchen Battaglia (Ed) and Jennifer Brooks; and his siblings, Bernard Brooks, Lucille Adamowicz, Ester Ford, Margaret Hallifax, David Brooks, Robert Brooks and Mary Livsey. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
