He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis E. Van Wie and Arlene W. Van Wie of Fair Haven; and his sister Jackie Brand of Syracuse. He is survived by: his children, Kimberly Gillem (Michael) of California, Durae Van Wie (Christopher) of North Carolina and Travis Van Wie of Cato; his former spouse Chris Van Wie; his siblings, Nancy MacDonald (David) of Fair Haven and Robert Van Wie (Claudia) of California; and his siblings' children, Greg MacDonald (Jennifer) of Maryland and Marcia Bittner (Cory) of North Carolina.
