With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Melvin Bates Sr. of Corning, New York, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on July 30, 2025 at the age of 79. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Darwin Bates and Averil Bates (Zyla); his grandsons, Brian Bates and Zachary Bates; and his siblings, Jean Pellett and Patricia Scott.
He is survived by: his children, Melvin Bates Jr. (Elayne Youmans) of Montour Falls, Heather Pavlick (George) of Addison and Jesse Bates of Corning; his grandchildren, Brandon, Austin, Emily, Ashley, Sean, Kailesa Wray, Cameron, Catlyn, Chelsey, Conner, Anthony (Danielle) and Nathan; his great grandchildren, Brentleigh, Braxton, Brian and Jelani; his siblings, Victoria Walker and Stanley Zyla; and his close friend Geno Dunn. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held on Thursday, August 7th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Bath National Cemetery.
