He was predeceased by: his mother Mary Lee Wilkins; his stepparents, Jerry Gleason and Nancy Yates; his mother-in-law Harriet Marsh; and his brother Terrance Lee Yates.
He is survived by: his father Burton Lee Yates, Sr. of Bolivar; his wife Cindy; his children, Holly A. Yates of Cuba and Adam L. Yates (Angela) of Olean; his grandchildren, Anson, Hope and Zachary; his father-in-law Wayne Marsh of Bolivar; his siblings, Tammy Blauvelt (Joe), Alan Yates (Lara) and Leah Witherell (Garth); and his stepsiblings, Darla Rockefeller (Barry), Barb Rockefeller (Don) and Dave Gleason (Jaime). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, Olean or Obi Community Church.
