Dorothy Leona (Burek) DiBello Obituary
Dorothy Leona Burek DiBello, of Defreestville, NY, died on October 17, 1982, at her home, surrounded by her family, after a long illness. She was 46 years old.
Dorothy Leona was born on February 11, 1936, in Rensselaer, New York. She was a graduate of Columbia High School in East Greenbush, New York.
In 1959, she married Anthony Francis DiBello and together they had 8 children: Mark, Joseph, Lisa, Bradley, Toni, Amy, Julie and Susan.
Dorothy was a lifelong communicant in the Roman Catholic Church, and a parishioner and longtime communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Rensselaer, New York and St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Troy, New York.
“Dottie” or “Lots” began her work career with the telephone company and for her husband in his publishing company, before becoming a full-time homemaker and housewife.
In her lifetime, Dorothy received her share of accolades and awards. She was a cheerleader in high school and a former “Miss Troy.” In addition, she contributed to countless churches, causes and charities.
Dorothy is survived by her mother, Frances A. Byer Burek; her sisters Mrs. Wilfred (Mary) Lapoint, Mrs. Stephen (Helen) Krill, Mrs. J. Donald (Frances) Leahey, Mrs. Harry J. (Margaret) Hughes, Mrs. Eugene (Carolyn) Carey; her brothers Thaddeus F. Burek and Paul E. Burek; her husband, Anthony Francis “Tony” DiBello; and her eight children: Mark Anthony DiBello, Joseph Michael DiBello, Lisa Ann DiBello, Bradley Ralph DiBello, Toni Marie DiBello, Amy Theresa DiBello, Julie Frances DiBello, and Susan Elizabeth DiBello; in addition to her sisters and brothers in-law, many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her father, Joseph W. Burek and her brothers Joseph Jr, John S. Burek and Stanley Burek; and other in-laws, uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces.
Dorothy was a strong believer in God. She was an extremely blessed, loving, talented and hard-working woman and mother. She was creative, classy and conscientious. She was also charming, comedic and charitable. She loved family, friends and so many more. In addition, she loved gardening and decorating. She truly loved and enjoyed animals (especially dogs, including her family dogs “Coco,” “Shimmy” and “Golden Nugget”), She loved sports (in particular those her children often participated in, bowling, horse-racing, football, baseball and her favorite teams the New York Giants and New York Mets), game-playing (like cards and backgammon), music, movies and television, travel (like Las Vegas or Atlantic City), dining and so much more. She truly loved and enjoyed life and her family.
Truly, there will forever be only one Dorothy “Lots” Burek DiBello like this one. She will be forever loved and adored.
