He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Eileen Fisher Schmitt; his children, Monica Anderson (David), Kurt Schmitt (Kiera), Rachel Cappuccino (Guy), Andrea Campagna (Alexander) and Mary Clyde (Adam); his grandsons, Jacob, Timothy and Peter Anderson; and his brothers, John Schmitt (Anne), Timothy Schmitt (Laura) and Christopher Schmitt.
