He was predeceased by: his son John Barre Ryan; his grandson Elias Koutsaris; his parents, Donald Ryan and Elizabeth Barre Ryan; his parents-in-law, Walter Sr., Louise Denmon and Erma Denmon; and his brothers, Frank Ryan, Joe Novak, Steve Denmon, James (Jean Rando), Walter Jr. (Joyce Denmon) and Robert (Terry Hauver).
He is survived by: his wife Diane Ryan; his children, Michael Ryan (Jennifer) of Lindenhurst, NY, Mark Ryan (Mary Kay) and Karyn Koutsaris (John); his grandchildren, Mark (Mason Ryan), Quinn, Declan (Eamon Ryan), Easton (Evan Koutsaris) and Megan Ryan; his sisters, Esma Novak and Sheila Wimer; and his sisters-in-law, Jeanette Cook and Wilma Denmon. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
