Peggy" Dietrich, age 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, August 2, 2018, in her home with her devoted family at her side. She was born on May 8, 1927 in Hudson, New York , a daughter of the late George and Mabel (Bartholomew) Harder. She was raised and educated in Hudson. On December 14, 1945, she married George Russell Dietrich in North Chatham. They shared a loving relationship until his passing in May 1992. For many years they owned and operated a dairy farm in Richfield Springs. They retired from farming in 1991 but the homestead has remained in the family. Peggy was a devoted Christian and had a deep faith in God. For many years her leisure time was spent crocheting, gardening, reading and sewing. She also enjoyed cooking especially for family events. She was devoted to her daughters, son-in-laws , grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She instilled her strong family values to them as well as to her extended family. She will be remembered as a loving and caring woman who was happiest when she was with family and friends. She will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Surviving are six daughters, Sandra Tollerton of Richfield Springs, Sherron Waldo and her husband Jon of Frankfort, Nina Nellis and her husband Howard of St. Johnsville, Rebecca Gallagher of Utica with whom she lived with, Anna Rogers of Auburn, and Elizabeth Janzen and her husband Daniel Sr. of Richfield Springs , a sister Ruth Malcolm of Valatie, fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents and husband George, she was preceded in death by a grandson Daniel Jansen II, four brothers, Charles, Robert, Ralph and William Horton and a sister Rose Oliver. Calling hours for Mrs. Dietrich will be on Monday from 2-4 pm. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. A Funeral service will be held at the Oak Ridge Free Methodist Church, West German, Herkimer , on Monday evening at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Christopher Schumske officiating. Memorial donation may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church service.
