It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Darlene F. Plavchak (Highland, New York), who passed away on July 10, 2025, at the age of 72, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Antonio Spizzo and Loretta Spizzo (Whalen); her son-in-law Michael C. O'Connor; and her siblings-in-law, Sandra Sherman and John Fallon.

She is survived by: her husband David Plavchak; her daughters, Cristine O'Connor (Zappone) of Weymouth, Massachusetts, Michelle Plavchak (Brian Bush), Allison Smith (Kevin) of Marlboro and Sarah McGrath (Michael) of Ravena; her grandchildren, Owen, Lucas, Sophie, Hannah O'Connor, Brynlee Bush, Emma and Andrew Smith; and her friend MaryBeth Saso. She is also survived by family, Darlene is survived by her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and countless nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to the newly established Darlene Plavchak Memorial Scholarship that will benefit Highland students who wish to pursue educational careers.

“I had not known that my dear friend passed. My FB has been down and I haven't read obituaries in months. My sister-in-law told me. She told me in passing conversation. Darlene wad one of my best friends in high school. We lived at each others houses. We went to school affairs and parties together often. I am so heartbroken. I missed her wake and funeral.
