He was predeceased by: his parents, James Abernathy and Edrie Purvis Abernathy; his brothers, Richard Abernathy and James Abernathy Jr.; and his brother-in-law Thomas Tice.
He is survived by: his children, Jennifer Achterberg (Jason), Matthew Abernathy (Heather) and Jill Kephart (Michael); his grandchildren, Brittany Thompson (Nicholas), Rebecca Snyder, Jacob Achterberg, Lexi Crowley (Logan), Sierra Abernathy, Riley Abernathy and Bailee Confer; his great grandchildren, Warren, Carson, Oakley and Leighton; his sister Linda Tice; and his sister-in-law Linda Abernathy.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1st 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Sullivan's Funeral Home (365 E Franklin St, Horseheads, NY 14845).
