He is survived by: his sister Betty; his wife Marian Ham; his sons, John (Terri Van Soest) and Justin (Kierston Van Soest); his former wife Marian Van Soest; his daughter Anne Van Soest (Jaye Lopez Van Soest); and his grandchildren, Brianna Van Soest, Abby Van Soest, Oliver Van Soest and Phoebe Van Soest.

Donation towards archiving Peter Van Soest's scientific materials, as well as support for Animal Science graduate students, is being arranged through Peter's friend and colleague Mike Barry.
