He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred A. Swanson and Lois May Fairbanks Swanson; his former wife Sandra Stanton Swanson; his grandson LCpl Aaron M. Swanson; and his brother Randall Swanson.
He is survived by: his former wife Sandy; his brother Randy; his wife Melissa Swanson; his son Gene Swanson (Julie) of Lakewood; his grandchildren, Luke Swanson of Jamestown, Torianna Bekoscke of Lakewood, Kiersten Tancos (Matthew) of Braddock Hts and Benjamin Swanson of Lakewood; his stepchildren, Brittany Goodwin and Fred Heller VI; and his siblings, Sharileen Douglas (Dana) of Jamestown and Robin Swanson (Belinda) of Colonial Beach, VA.. He is also survived by two great grandchildren.
