He was predeceased by : his parents, Stephen Hlywa and Mary Hlywa (Minarsky); his nephews, Kyle Wilson and Christopher Gelder; and his brother-in-law Charles Gelder.

He is survived by : his wife Barbara Jean Hlywa (Prendergast); his former life partner Leah Dian Parker; his children, Laurie Hlywa of Mooresville, NC, Lisa Lester (Joseph) of King Ferry, NY, Maggie Hlywa of Mt. Ulla, NC and Stephen Hlywa (Tina) of Groton, NY; his grandchildren, Mariana Swears, AJ Hlywa-Swears (Tori), Benji Hlywa-Swears, Jeyden Hlywa, Morgan Hlywa, Joseph Lester and Cameron Lester; and his sisters, Regina Carson (Charles) of Horseheads, NY and Mitzi Margeson of Nokomisi, FL. He is also survived by 16 nieces and nephews and a growing number of great nieces and nephews.
