He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Briggs and Nettie Briggs (Thomas); his former wife Dorothy Mae Briggs; his daughter Margaret M. King; and his siblings, Thelma Gist (Calvin), Margaret Gaines (Wiley), Jesse Briggs, Jr. (Florine) and Peter Briggs (Gail).
He is survived by: his brother Bishop; his children, Ed, Margie and Pam; his wife Dollyann Newkirk-Briggs; his children, William R. Briggs (Shirlee), Coleman E. Briggs (Theresa), Bruce A. Briggs (Rose), Paul S. Briggs (Hope) and Pamela R. Palmer (Larue); and his siblings, Daisy Briggs, Walter Briggs (Eve), John Briggs (Renvy), James Briggs (Sharon) and Joseph Briggs (Joslynn). He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
