He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernst Schmidt and Mina Schmidt (Houghtaling); his stepfather Carl Houghtaling; his brother Ernst Schmidt; his parents-in-law, Frank and Sally Cabral; and his siblings-in-law, Frank Cabral and Jeanette Cabral.
He is survived by: his wife Geraldine Schmidt; his daughters, Donna Kidd and Jill (Billy Thorpe); his grandchildren, Austin Kidd, Tyler and Lexi Thorpe; his brother Richard Schmidt; and his friends, Walt and Margie Stewart. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
